Arriving on December 7, 1995, it entered orbit around the Jovian system - receiving data from a small probe that entered Jupiter's atmosphere at 106,000 mph! In December 1997, the Galileo orbiter began a 2-year extended mission to repeatedly fly by and study the moons of Jupiter, focusing on Europa, which is smaller than Earth's moon but 5 times brighter!
